I a new laptop user,Advent 7560, running Vista Premium, and want to purchase a low end scanner for minimal use

I am new to home computing but can follow the basics. I need to avoid too much jargon. I need to e-mail a scanned page or five, with good resolution, once or twice a month. Am about to go to PC World and probably be blinded by science and buy something for which I heave no use. Any advice will be usefuk and welcome.
